Capsules and softgels encapsulate a pre-measured CBD dose, usually suspended in a carrier oil inside the softgel shell, or as a powder/isolate inside a standard capsule. Because each unit is manufactured to a specific milligram amount, this format tends to offer the most consistent dosing of any commercially available CBD product.

The tradeoff is absorption: oral ingestion routes CBD through the digestive system and liver before it reaches the bloodstream (a process called first-pass metabolism), which generally means slower onset and lower relative bioavailability compared to sublingual or inhaled routes. Some manufacturers now use nanoemulsion or liposomal technology in an attempt to improve absorption, though independent verification of these bioavailability claims varies by brand.

Capsules are often preferred by people who want to avoid the taste of hemp extract, want easily portable dosing, or are incorporating CBD into an existing supplement routine alongside other capsules.
